Kingsland Drinks Group are a premier independent UK supplier of wine and spirits specialising in providing a complete category solution. Using our consumer understanding and drinks experience, we provide innovative, bespoke solutions to become the partner of choice as we create value for our customers.
We have a rich history, with our site dating back to 1895. The first production of Wines & Spirits started in 1955. The company evolved into Kingsland, and we are pioneers of the UK wine industry, being the first to use the Manchester shipping canal to transport wine. Our most recent exciting milestone is becoming employee owned in June 2021. As an employee-owned business, with indirect ownership of 51% of the business, this gives our members, shareholders, and trust autonomy to embrace changes within the business and allows a platform for our people to help to make decisions for our present and future.
Working with a company that is employee owned means you can suggest ideas and innovative ways in how we, as a collective run our business. Our most important stakeholder is our members, who have also been key to our success. We have built on our heritage, with a family ethic, and always tried to encourage a positive can-do culture that encourages individual responsibility. We have always valued our members contribution and we recognise that the success of Kingsland has only been possible with everyone’s valued contributions.
Our key objective when we decided on the next step on the journey for Kingsland is for our business to continue to grow and develop and provide security for all our stakeholders. We strongly believe we have created a great legacy that we want to securely hand this on to the next generation and beyond, so the future of the business remains in its own hands. We want Kingsland Drinks Group to be a place people enjoy coming to work and a business our members feel proud of.
Each week we deliver outstanding wine and spirits products to customers across the UK and overseas. From 2004 to date we have grown our Sales volume from 40 million Litres to 153 million litres, and our employee numbers have risen from 245 to over 500 making us one the of the largest employers in Salford.
We are extremely proud of who we are, and the team here have made us what we are today. Our people will shape our future. Times and technologies have changed, but today we stand for what we’ve always stood for: bringing our customers quality products and outstanding service, responsibly.
Kingsland operate in a culture of continuous improvement. We continuously invest in our people seeking to develop skills and expertise in all areas of Operations. We also have a comprehensive Graduate Scheme at Kingsland Drinks Group designed to train and develop the future leaders of our business.
Kingsland is also committed to minimising the environmental impact of its activities and continually improving its environmental performance. We have been committed to implementing “green” practices in our day to day strategies, practices, and products for over 60 years. This is not new to us. It is in our DNA. Is it in yours?
We are proud of the Manchester roots that have grounded us, so we find tangible ways to give back to the people who have contributed to our success: our fantastic members and our much loved local community.
The four shareholders of Kingsland Group have put a great deal of thought into the succession of the business: focusing heavily on legacy, family ethics, and most importantly, our members. The result saw 51% of the company being sold into an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), giving each and every one of us indirect ownership status. We can now take even more pride in building Kingsland’s future which has been secured for many more years to come.
As well as this and being invited to actively participate with local charities and sporting events, our employees can expect the following benefits whilst working at Kingsland Drinks:
Fancy working for an ethical business, where your voice matters? We're a friendly, forward-thinking bunch, and our values run through everything we do. Join us for great people, great wine and spirits, exceptional benefits, a real living wage, and fairness to all.
What's in it for you?
‘Members’ is what we call ourselves instead of 'employees' or 'staff'. In 2021 the shareholders made the decision to pass on their legacy to their members, so working here makes you a member. It's not just a name; every member can play a part in shaping our business for our future.
You’ve applied, so what’s next?
Once we’ve received your application it will be reviewed by our colleagues in HR and passed on to the hiring manager.
We might then invite you to take part in an informal telephone interview, ask you to complete some online tests, or come straight in for a face to face interview.
If your application is unsuccessful, you can be sure we will contact you to let you know.
At your interview you will be asked a mix of questions about your CV, and you will be asked to give some situational examples of when you displayed one of our values. You’ll also get the chance to ask us any questions you may have and learn a bit more about the role and about Kingsland.
It could be that we make an offer after this interview, but we usually like to invite you back in for a tour of the site so that you can make sure we are right for you too.
Again, we will always keep you updated on the status of your application at every stage of the process.
If you become our latest employee, you will be integrated in to the company right from the word ‘go’ and our first day induction is designed to equip you with everything you need to know to survive your first day and enjoy it!
Our people are the heart and soul of Kingsland. We believe that the success of the business is dependent upon the skills, attitudes, flexibility and commitment of our employees. During your first few months you will be given a professional self-development plan which is designed to add value not only on a personal level but also to improve your ability to contribute to the company.

What do you like most about your role?
My role is very varied, no day is the same and I get to work with all aspects of the company from Sales & Marketing to Buying which creates great opportunities to learn more and see where you want to progress within the company. Everyone is incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel totally at ease, even when you’re meeting so many different people all at once! The support I have received for my WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) qualifications has been second to none. I am given time during working hours to study, and am involved in many tastings which has been a massive help!

I have been at Kingsland for almost four years. I initially started working part time in the accounts department after leaving University, when a HR Administrator role became available, and I was given the opportunity to join the HR team.

I can work with many different people across the organisation, whether that’s in the finance team, marketing team, or in the production department. It allows you to get to know people throughout the business. Each day is different with different challenges. It’s a very dynamic role: one day I could be inputting figures on agency spreadsheets, and the next day I could be organising a charity bake off! Everyone is really friendly at Kingsland which creates a great atmosphere to work in.
